A Totem in Owl Wood

A little while ago I was given an old birdbath.
I didn't really want it,
because
it is not a style of garden ornament that I like.

However, because it has owls on it,
and we have Owl Wood,
I decided to accept the gift
and
to place it discreetly away in Owl Wood.

What can I say?
Except that I am overjoyed that I did.

For many years we have gone to sleep at night
listening to the sound of Tawny Owls
calling to one another.

Not so this last year or so.
The woodland has been upsettingly silent.

Well,
since I got two strong men to place the birdbath in Owl Wood
I am happy to say that some magic seems to have happened.

The wonderful sound of Mr and Mrs Tawny Owl
calling to one another
has once again become the soundtrack
I fall asleep to each night.

Magic!

    1. Hello Marcia, They are wonderful birds. It would be great if they decide to take up residence in our owl box next year. It is about time Owl Wood saw some young ones again.

    1. Hello Linda, It is lovely! Given the amount of work which has been done in Owl Wood, since they left, it is nice of them to give it the seal of approval. Now I just need for them to claim the owl box next spring!

  4. We can hear owls here at night, Marta wont go out if she hears them. Which is strange as she is quite a fearless dog really...? Maybe it is because it is built in to DNA as she is a small dog and if an owl could take a hare, then it could probably take her away...?

Good to have the bird bath, lots of little animals like hedgehogs could use it!

    Hope you are well.

  5. It must have been magic!! I like the unusual bird bath. I love owls too, even though we have lost many of our guineas to owls.

  8. You may already have heard from me over the last few days, since I read your comments on Finn Haddock. If you have, my apologies. I am still a learner about blogspot, and it isn't clear whether or not my comment has reached you.
I could add quite a bit about Finn. I have three of his paintings, bought from him in his studio. If you want to know more, I suggest you email me on antonychapman4@gmail.com
    Best wishes,

    1. Hello Antony, I have just found your comment in my Spam box - I haven't got any other ones from you though. Perhaps Blogger has been playing silly games, as it does from time to time.
How wonderful that you have three of Finn's paintings! It is good to know that there are other people who still appreciate his work.
